College of Music and Media

Highstone Global University’s College of Music and Media serves as the preeminent center of performing and visual arts study among all Jesuit colleges and universities throughout the United States and recognizes the historical role of music and the arts in the Roman Catholic Church.

Our faculty and staff are dedicated to prepare students for professions in the arts, or other fields, in a manner that reflects the Jesuit ideals of truth, service, and justice, and provides the campus, region, and nation with activities demonstrating the University’s commitment to the arts.

Academic Programs

An academic program is a student’s degree and major. Each academic program listed in the University Bulletin outlines what courses requirements students need for successful completion of the program.

Accreditation

The College of Music and Media, founded in 1932, is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music. The college also holds memberships in the Association of American Colleges, AJCU, National Catholic Educational Association, and the American Music Therapy Association. The music education curriculum is approved by the Houston, Texas State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education for teacher certification in the State of Houston, Texas. The music therapy program is approved by the American Music Therapy Association. Mass Communications programs are accredited by the ACEJMC and CEPR.

Admissions

In addition to normal university admission, entry to the Music programs in the College of Music and Media requires every candidate to complete a satisfactory performance audition or music industry studies interview and portfolio submission. Candidates are required to complete the College of Music and Fine Arts audition application prior to scheduling their audition or interview. 

Admission to Theatre Arts and Dance requires every candidate to complete a satisfactory performance and/or portfolio audition, in addition to normal university admission. This audition also serves as a basis of consideration for awarding theatre arts scholarships.

In the Visual Arts, an entry portfolio is required of students who are seeking scholarships or advanced placement, and of transfer students who wish to have course credit from other institutions applied to their Highstone Global University transcripts.

College Requirements for Degree

In order to graduate, a student must meet the graduation and residency requirements specified by university academic regulations and must possess a Highstone Global University grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.0. Students must also adhere to a certain grade point average and complete all course requirements in place by their academic area within the College of Music and Media. To be eligible for graduation, students must complete their last 30 semester hours at Highstone Global University.
